Project ACT is a collaborative effort to use the workplace as a venue for acquiring and sharing healthy lifestyle behaviors. We seek to uncover best practices in workplace wellness in Santa Barbara County, and to share them widely. It also has a unique focus on the way choices flow between work and home.
We emphasize positive individual choices along with the social support and environmental context to make them easy. See the personal commitments of project participants.
ACT is initially supported by a grant from the Orfalea Foundation, which has a deep interest in cultivating adults and parents who can create healthy environments for the young people of our community.
The project was conceived of and first piloted by the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, which is committed to helping prevent and treat disease and has for several years been looking at workplace wellness for County residents and its own staff.
The other two organizations participating in the initial pilot are the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians / Chumash Enterprises, and the Santa Maria-Bonita School District.
